Half Day: Tools for Healing Trauma: Creating Transformation at Each Stage of Trauma Treatment

This didactic and experiential workshop will look at the triunal brain and the neurobiology of healing and transforming trauma. With neurobiology in mind, participants will learn specific mindfulness and coping skills to integrate into therapy with trauma survivors and more importantly, which skills are most useful during which stage of trauma treatment. The workshop will also look at creating safety and secure attachment in the therapy relationship, which is key to work with trauma survivors. Participants will learn tools for safely working with the child self, the part of themselves that often carries the trauma. Interventions based on memory reconsolidation research will be presented as key to the final stage of integrating, healing and transforming trauma.

Participants will learn the basic neurobiology of trauma and an overview of what is happening in the mind/body at different stages of trauma treatment
Participants will learn three mindfulness and coping skills as part of effective trauma treatment
Participants will learn which types of mindfulness and coping skills are most effective at which stages of treatment and why they are effective
Participants will learn the importance of creating safety and secure attachment in the therapeutic relationship and some important steps to help create this.
This workshop is for Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Substance Abuse Counselors, National Certified Counselors, Nurses, Educators and Psychologists
Elizabeth Davenport, LICSW has a private practice in Waltham, MA, specializing in trauma, PTSD, anxiety disorders, couples therapy, and consultation. She has extensive experience in working with trauma in a variety of settings. She is certified in IFS, hypnosis, and EMDR, and has training in AEDP. She has presented workshops at various graduate programs, conferences, and in the community. She brings an integrated approach to both her clinical work and her teaching.
