Abby Atkins, Health Resources in Action
Ms. Atkins serves as HRiA's Assistant Director of Research and Evaluation and has extensive experience in conducting community-based research and planning on health care access, chronic disease, and the social determinants of health. She has led the CHNA for the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL as well as for Norwalk, CT which fulfills the IRS mandate for the hospital and assessment prerequisite for accreditation for the health department there. Ms. Atkins has also lead an evaluation of new nutritional and physical activity resources for youth in El Paso, TX, funded through the federal Carol M. White physical education grants.
Previously, Ms. Atkins was the day-to-day manager of the Bexar County, TX community health assessment and has been involved with the community health improvement planning process in the area. Other previous projects include a county-wide study to assess the organization, impact, and challenges of the health care delivery system in Adams County, Illinois, and an assessment to identify and analyze current community needs, trends, and assets in Cass County, Illinois. Ms. Atkins analyzed community needs in the Central Savannah River Area (Georgia) and identified strategies, activities, and services that could be provided through a regional multi-service center. Ms. Atkins holds a master's degree in social work (focus in community organization, social policy, and planning) from Boston College and a bachelor's degree from Connecticut College.
