Health Equity Trainings
These trainings are designed to help community members, stakeholders, organizations, and many more explore and tackle the roots of health inequities by addressing the social determinants of health. This is done by addressing health equity at the different levels of intervention, exploring our power dynamics, and learning how to meaningfully engage underrepresented communities in community health. The following is a list of trainings we have offered in the past, but we are happy to work with you to develop a training that meets the needs of your coalition or organization.
Racial Equity
This training will explore how institutional or customary practices, whether intentional or unintentional, are set up to further perpetuate racial health inequities. Participants will:
- Explore how this manifests in the community context.
- Discover ways in which they can work actively against perpetuating these inequitable systems.
Cultural Competency
This training will provide participants with the opportunity to explore the common barriers to engaging diverse communities in their work, and how to think collaboratively about ways to effectively engage diverse populations/communities in their efforts. Participants will:
- Explore barriers to engagement, both conscious and unconscious.
- Learn how race, class, and cultural communication styles influence the ways in which diverse communities relate to planning and implementation activities.
