Evaluation 101

June 1, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Presented by the Community Health Training Institute

Audience: Coalition members and community organizations working on evaluating their programs.

Topics: Data collection, research design, and types of evaluation

Description: As communities across the country continue to confront a range of social issues, there is a greater demand for accountability from both public and private sources. As a result, funders and members of the community at-large want to know that prevention efforts are effective. This workshop focuses on the theory and practice of program. Discussions will focus on the importance of conducting both process and outcome evaluation, the advantages and disadvantages of various research designs and data collection methods, ways to conduct rigorous evaluations within budgetary and time constraints, and considerations for disseminating evaluation results. The training will be interactive and participants will be encouraged to share examples from their work for discussion.

Participants completing this training will be able to:

  1. Discuss the rationale behind conducting process and outcome evaluations and how to develop measurable, realistic short-term and long-term outcomes for different types of evaluations.
  2. Determine the most appropriate type of evaluation for a program, initiative, or policy given the stage of development, stakeholder needs, and available resources.
  3. Describe the opportunities and challenges of conducting evaluations in different settings and ways in which to overcome some of these challenges.
