Fundamentals of Affordable Housing Finance

November 29, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Instructors:
Ed Marchant

This training will focus on affordable housing finance fundamentals and has been designed for affordable housing development process participants with limited or no direct experience in securing and structuring subsidy, debt and/or equity financing for affordable or mixed-income rental or ownership housing developments. As such, the targeted audience includes staff who do not work directly in finance but would like to have a better general understanding of finance fundamentals along with board members, housing advocates, and/or public sector actors for whom a better understanding of affordable housing finance would be useful.

Instructor Edward Marchant has been actively involved in the affordable housing industry with experience working at both a non-profit company (Greater Boston Community Development, Inc., now known as The Community Builders, Inc.); a for profit company (John M. Corcoran & Co); and as an independent real estate advisor with significant experience advising both developers and municipalities on Chapter 40B mixed-income developments. Mr. Marchant has been an active real estate educator since 1980 at Harvard Kennedy School where he teaches courses on real estate development and finance fundamentals and on the development, financing and management of affordable housing. These courses are jointly listed with the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) where Mr. Marchant is a Lecturer and also teaches in several GSD Executive Education programs. A graduate of Cornell University and Harvard Business School, Mr. Marchant also serves as an active member of the Board of Directors at The Community Builders, Inc. (TCB).
