This training course will provide participants with an introduction to the basic principles and practices of planning. Participants will learn about different fields of planning, ranging from traditional land use and zoning to economic development and arts and culture.

Participants will have an opportunity to participate in interactive activities where they will get to try their hand at planning, including reviewing community input, analyzing demographic and market data, and formulating recommendations for how a community can meet their planning goals. Participants will also be directed to additional resources, including Planning 102, which will guide them on how to get more involved in planning processes of interest.

Instructor Bio:

Amanda Chisholm is the Chief Economic Development Planner at the Metropolitan Area Planning Council and coordinates the council’s overall approach to economic development planning. In her time at MAPC she has managed various land use, economic development, and housing planning projects in a variety of different types of communities.
