Investing in Health: How Hospitals and CDCs can Partner to Address Community Needs

March 14, 2019 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Instructors:  Kristina Kimani, Massachusetts Public Health Association

In Massachusetts there are currently more than 70 nonprofit and private for-profit hospitals. As a patient, we are unlikely to distinguish between the two, but behind the scenes there are some key distinctions that are important for community leaders to understand. In this workshop learn about:

The Attorney General’s revised Hospital Community Benefits Guidelines for non-profit hospitals and the updated Determination of Need/Community Health Initiative regulations and guidance and the opportunities available to build upon these frameworks.
Examples of how hospitals are changing their behavior to better reflect community needs and case-studies that detail current CDC-hospital partnerships.
Ways to find out information about the hospital in your community and tools to engage with hospital staff.

Hospitals in Massachusetts have obligations to provide a community benefit to their surrounding communities. Recent regulation updates by the Department of Public Health and the Office of the Attorney General outline how hospitals can most strategically invest in communities to address community needs. Participants will have time to learn about these current frameworks and opportunities for new partnerships and strategic investments in their communities.
