Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation: Creating Inclusive Environments (April)

April 19, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Presented by: Kimm Topping, Ed.M. and Minh Nguyen

Fee: $45

Many nonprofits are exploring ways to create more LGBTQ+ inclusive environments and foster greater gender equity in the workplace. Grounded in story-telling and interactive activities, this workshop will explore gender bias, gender identity, and sexual orientation, and the relationship these have to organizational policies and practices. We will pay special attention to the impact of COVID-19 on LGBTQ+ communities and other topics relevant to your organizations.

We’ll start with looking at ourselves – what biases and stereotypes do we hold? Then, we’ll think about how this impacts our work and the people we serve. Finally, we’ll explore organizational policies and practices. Our training style is interactive, fun, intersectional, and practical – including scenarios, videos, sharing personal experiences, and discussions.

Attendees will:

  • Examine personal and societal biases, conscious and unconscious, about gender and sexuality, and what impact these biases have on our work
  • Explore successes and challenges related to gender equity and LGBTQ+ inclusivity
  • Develop skills to discuss these topics with colleagues, partners, clients, etc.
  • Identify policies and practices that promote greater inclusion and equity within organizations

Target Audience: This training is designed for all nonprofit sector professionals interested in learning more about gender bias, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
