June 20, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The current opioid epidemic in the United States is not only a threat to the lives and the health of opioid misusers, but is an enormous challenge for those responding to the epidemic. We seek to provide a deeper understanding of the origins of substance misuse, how it has been and might be interrupted and prevented and how to support your own needs in working with opioid users.

Following this training, workshop participants will be able to:

• Better understand and describe the journey of substance misuse from onset through recovery in personal human terms;
• Will be able to describe Inner Safety and its effects on substance misuse, and will be able to articulate how brain function can result in reactive behavior or in the ability to make choice;
• Will be able to discuss relationship skills that can create opportunities for recovery and maintenance of recovery, and that can prevent substance misuse.

This workshop is for Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Substance Abuse Counselors, National Certified Counselors, Nurses, Educators and Psychologists. The format will include lecture, small group activities, and large group discussion.
