Shifting Power Dynamics through Environmental Justice

May 18, 2021 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Join us for a brand new online training!Kelly and Tamika

Topics: Health equity through environmental justice, community engagement

Description: Environmental justice is tied inextricably to health and racial equity. Black and Brown communities, which have been most impacted by a history of racialized housing policy, redlining, food apartheid, and lack of green spaces are also most likely to be located near factories, bus terminals, and other sources of pollution and hazardous materials that negatively impact a person’s health. This training will equip coalitions with the tools and knowledge to place community voices at the forefront of the environmental justice movement. How can coalitions shift power back to the communities most impacted by environmental injustice? By creating a deep understanding of the powers and structures at play, we can begin to empower communities that have been subjected to environmental injustices for years. This training will use a mix of case studies, group discussion, and interactive activities to explore how coalitions can engage in this important work.
