Advancing Health Equity at Work

Topics: Valuing lived experience to drive organizational policy, managing up to achieve equity in the workplace, building power among staff members who do not have a seat at the leadership table.

Description: Who better to decide on policies than those who are most affected by them? By centering folks with lived experience navigating systems of oppression, we can bring about changes that improve life, health, and work satisfaction for everyone. This training will explore strategies to build power within your organization or coalition and offer tools to have courageous conversations with those in traditional positions of leadership. Come prepared to share your stories, challenges, and brainstorm solutions!  

Audience: Coalition members and leaders, public health professionals, students, non-profit organization workers and community members.

Learning Objectives:Participants will be able to:  

  1. Identify the value of lived experience in systemic dynamics of power and oppression.
  2. Gain strategies to build power within an organization.
  3. Learn tools to have courageous conversations with leadership to advance equity.

MA DPH Coalition Criteria Addressed: 

  1. Shared vision including a focus on reducing health disparities and promoting health equity.
  2. Defined structure for strategic planning and decision-making.
  3. Consistency with MDPH’s goals and priorities.
  4. Participation from key stakeholders (individuals and organizations that have a vested stake or interest in a program or policy initiative, e.g., it will impact them directly).
