This one-day intensive training is designed for rental management staff; lottery and monitoring agents; municipal, regional housing and community development staff; local housing trust members and staff; and members/staff of Community Preservation Committees.
The training will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 100 High Street, Boston, MA 02110 in the South Station Room.
Affirmative Fair Housing Marketing (AFHM)
The first half of the training will provide the legal foundations of fair housing and elements of an acceptable AFHM and Resident Selection Plan. This part of the training will be led by MassHousing’s Katherine Miller and Reiko Hayashi from the state Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).
In the second half of the training, Laura Shufelt of the Massachusetts Housing Partnership will provide a step-by-step explanation of the housing lottery process. Attention will be paid to lotteries for both homeownership and rental units as well as post-lottery waiting list management.
Specific topics to be addressed include identifying the roles and responsibilities of lottery and monitoring agents, how to include preference for lotteries and the role of the community.
This training was previously held as a two-part series. In order to make it easier for people to attend, the same content has been condensed into one day.
Attendees of the training will receive a certification of attendance. This certification, combined with Certified Occupancy Specialist or other income determination training, will meet the qualifications of most organizations to conduct affordable homeownership and rental lotteries and lease-ups.
Attendees must attend the entire training to receive the certification.
