BSAS: Diversity Awareness Training to Address Cultural Competence

Course description: In this highly interactive one-day workshop, participants will explore dimensions of workplace diversity to increase their cultural competence. Specific tools will be provided to navigate the nuances of diversity. By using interactive exercises and case studies, participants will leave with an understanding of the diversity initiative of the Commonwealth; the various dimensions of workplace diversity; and some of the common sources of biases.

Objectives:

At the end of this session, learners will be able to:

• Practice diversity awareness in the workplace by valuing differences of others
• Identify one to three of their own biases
• Describe a greater understanding of all the dimensions of diversity
• Describe how language and communication can contribute to a culture of inclusivity
