WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Center to Support Immigrant Organizing will introduce participants to the process of grassroots community organizing. Participants will learn about strategies and tactics to cultivate the leadership of those impacted by injustice.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will learn to:
Analyze the conditions at the roots of the problems they face
Come together with others to develop strategies, tactics and goals for a campaign to change their conditions
Move each step of a campaign from beginning until end with leadership of grassroots people who are most impacted by the problems faced
Target Audience
Individuals interested in learning how to activate grassroots organizing efforts to address problems facing their communities, particularly leaders of color focused on community and labor organizing work. Leaders from grassroots groups who are interested in additional training as well as sharing insights and strategies with other.
About the Trainers:
CSIO Co-Founders and Co-Directors have extensive experience in community and labor organizing with immigrant populations. Luz Zambrano has worked as a labor organizer, community organizer, immigration counselor and project director for a number of labor and community groups. Kevin Whalen has worked as an organizer and director of community organizations based in immigrant and low-income populations. They have extensive work and volunteer experience in multiple community and labor organizations that work for grassroots change.
