Supervisor Learning Cohort

September 24, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

LEARNING COHORT RUNS FROM SEPTEMBER 24 TO DECEMBER 1
Presented by TSNE’s Lyn Freundlich and Joanne Horgan

Together, we will learn and experiment with concrete tools to grow your supervisory skills and practice.
Skilled, intentional, and strategic supervision is integral to organizational success and employee satisfaction. Effective supervisors, whether new to the role or coming with a wealth of experience, tap into self-awareness, are adaptive, and leverage a range of interpersonal skills. Using these practices, a supervisor creates a culture of mutual respect — one in which employees and supervisors communicate regularly and clearly about job-related expectations, tasks, and overall performance.

Strong supervision is also one of the keys to building equitable teams and an organizational culture that genuinely values different life experiences and perspectives, and where every employee can succeed.

Effective supervision is integral to organizational success and employee satisfaction, yet many supervisors feel woefully under-prepared. Join us and a group of peers to create a collaborative learning community. Together, we will learn and experiment with concrete tools to grow your supervisory skills and practice.

As a member of the Supervisor Learning Cohort, you will:

Participate in three, two-hour interactive training sessions
Meet three times as a cohort to:
Reflect on real supervisory challenges and make concrete plans to address them
Explore your experiences putting new tools and behaviors in place
Hold one another kindly accountable to taking action to address challenges

ABOUT THE TRAINERS

Lyn Freundlich: Lyn has over 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, primarily in volunteer and human resources, and has worked for TSNE since 2003. For most of that time, she oversaw the internal operational and personnel aspects of the organization. In 2005 Lyn launched, and now leads, TSNE’s human resources training and consulting practice for small to mid-sized grassroots, social justice, and other mission-focused nonprofits. Lyn has previously worked in large, international organizations and tiny, member-driven, local ones. Lyn has a BA from Oberlin College and a Master’s Degree in Organization and Management from Antioch University of New England.

Joanne Horgan: Joanne is currently a Human Resources Consultant and Lead Trainer for TSNE. Joanne has worked with TSNE since 1993. Joanne has served many roles in the organization over the years, all of them in TSNE‚Äôs Human Resources practice. She has directed the internal HR function as well as led the HR team in its delivery of services to over 60 fiscally sponsored clients. Joanne has also been providing HR consulting and training for small to mid-sized grassroots, social justice, and other mission-focused nonprofits for over 20 years.?Joanne holds a BA in Organizational Psychology and an MS in Human Resources Counseling from Northeastern University.

Lyn and Joanne ground TSNE’s HR training and consulting practice in the belief that people are an organization’s greatest asset and choose this work not simply to make a living but to make a difference. This belief, coupled with the philosophy that core organizational values can best be lived internally through values-aligned human resources practices, informs their work. Lyn and Joanne both lead values-based HR assessments and work with organizations to build compensation, performance management, and other systems that reflect each organization’s unique culture. They are experienced coaches and provide “on-site” employee relations coaching and consulting to nonprofit organizations and their supervisors and leaders. They approach coaching and employee-relations issues from a strength-based model that values the whole person, while keeping the organization’s mission and values a top priority.
