Unraveling the Intricacies of Autism Spectrum Disorders

One of the most interesting and complex groups of children to work with are those diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. The varied clinical presentation, the range of social and emotional development, and the way children on the “spectrum” think can be a challenge for clinicians. Understanding the array of spectrum profiles, the global impact of the disability and the common developmental strengths and weaknesses is the core to developing treatment plans that ultimately lead to the child’s success.
This workshop provides a deep understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders from early childhood through young adulthood. Through case examples, participants will learn clinical strategies and treatment approaches to implement in their daily practice.
As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify the core developmental characteristics of children on the Autism Spectrum throughout childhood.
- Identify the impact that Autism Spectrum Disorder has on the social, emotional, and educational functioning of the child.
- Analyze the child’s functioning level and effectively plan for the child’s future.
- Diagnostically differentiate between Asperger’s Syndrome and other developmental disabilities.
This workshop is for Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Substance Abuse Counselors, National Certified Counselors, Nurses, Educators and Psychologists.
Ryan Plosker, M.S., Ed.D. is the Executive Director and Founder of New England Academy. Dr. Plosker has worked in both clinical and school settings as a school psychologist, director and special education administrator. Dr. Plosker has a passion for bridging the gap between psychology and education to meet the needs of children with social, emotional and learning disabilities. Dr. Plosker consults with secondary schools and universities throughout the country.
