An Introduction to Implicit Bias

July 13, 2016 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Presented by the Mel King Institute.

Instructor: Susan Naimark, Consultant

We see things not as they are, we see them as we are- Anais Nin, Author of Under a Glass Bell

Implicit biases are our unconscious associations, buried in our subconscious, that generate feelings and attitudes about other people based on race, ethnicity, age, and other identity traits. We all have biases that we are unaware of, and they significantly impact how we move through the world and interact with others. This workshop will introduce participants to the concept of implicit bias: what it is, how it develops, its impacts in the workplace, and research-based debiasing strategies. You will come away with a better understand of your own unconscious biases, and with practical strategies to reduce them and their impact on your beliefs and actions. Please bring your smartphone or laptop to access an online activity we will do during this workshop.
